We cannot thank Haine & Son, Polegate enough for the wonderful service we received when our mother died in Eastbourne, just after Christmas. As her wishes had always been to be buried in London with the funeral service taking place there also our initial concern was of course to get confirmation that this would not be a problem. The staff were wonderful from the outset and throughout. They were always considerate of our needs; guided us through the process and were always patient with us whenever we wanted to change anything. They took care of Mum so well, made sure she was dressed in her own clothes, and had he beloved red shoes with her. We were given sufficient time to say goodbye in a peaceful tranquil space. Rhea travelled up to London with the hearse and ensured that everything went smoothly on the day. Nothing seemed to phase them. We had a wonderful service in London that ran well over the allotted time, but the team remained calm and professional up to the end. Thank you Rhia, Venessa and Paula.

The service we received from the moment my mum went into the care of Haines was outstanding. They completely took over and guided us with our decisions every step of the way, and were always on the end of the phone if we needed anything. All the stress was taken away by their loving care. My mum received the best care possible and we were so thankful for the how they looked after her in preparation for our visit. She looked so peaceful and like she was having the best sleep. The room we were in was so calm and peaceful and everything was explained about how the room was set out before we went in. There was no rush or pressure to the visit, and we could sit comfortably before going in to see my mum, or not go in if we so chose. The actual day of the funeral was perfect. The care and respect shown to my mum was unbelievable, and again we were guided along the way, never rushed and allowed to take things at our own pace. We thank you so much for everything, particularly Jodie, who actually worked her day off to co-ordinate the funeral. She was there whenever we needed her, but completely unobtrusive in our grief. Thanks also to Paula, Vanessa and Rhia, as you too, were involved in other aspects of making the experience as good as it could be. Not forgetting the guys who collected my mum initially, and the drivers on the funeral day, who drove us along the seafront, my mums favourite ride out. You have all been amazing and we, as a family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts 💕 Family of Kitty 18.12.1930 - 25.12.2025 afe 95 years

What usually happens after arranging a funeral

Most families arrange the funeral first. Dealing with the estate often comes next — something many people don't realise at the time.

There's nothing you need to do right now. A quick check can help you understand what to expect later.

  • Banks ask for paperwork
