Alderson and Horan Funeral Services is a family-run funeral business based at 128 Rossendale Road, Burnley, Lancashire. Founded in 2004 by brothers-in-law Stephen Alderson and John Horan, the company was established with a strong commitment to providing a personal, warm, and professional service to bereaved families at their most difficult time.
Stephen and John together bring more than 40 years of experience in all aspects of the funeral industry. They previously worked together at a local funeral company before it was taken over by a larger corporation — an environment that did not align with their belief in personalised, family-centred care. This inspired them to create their own business, built on family values and genuine compassion.
The business has grown steadily and now employs a team of nine regular staff, the majority of whom are family members. Alderson and Horan offer a comprehensive range of funeral services including pre-paid funeral plans, repatriation, Victorian horse-drawn carriage, hearse and limousines, floral tributes, headstones, memorials, and urns and caskets. They are members of both NAFD and SAIF, reflecting their dedication to high professional standards and quality of care.
"Having not been involved in planning a funeral before I was a little apprehensive, but Alex took us through everything step by step and arranged a wonderful funeral for Dad with compassion and professionalism throughout."
— Mark Nevison (about Alex)
"I would like to thank Leighton in particular for his outstanding contribution that added those little extras that made it a funeral to remember. A first class, caring and compassionate family run business that could not do enough for us."
— John Eccles (about Leighton)
"In the darkest of times there was a light. Every one of our wishes were carried out with the gentlest of thoughts at all times. We were treated with dignity, sympathy and the utmost care."
— Julie Murray (about Stephen)
"You made the worst day of our lives that bit easier. Leighton, you made me and my dad feel so at ease with organising nan's final journey. My nan was looked after by you all with all the love and care in the world."
— Ashlee Bell (about Leighton)
"Just beautiful. Like angels coming to help you when you don't know how you'll make it through. Thank you from my heart."
— Colin Lupton
"If I could count how many stars they are in the sky I would give Alderson and Horan all of them. You have gone above and beyond to look after my late mother. From the very first meeting to the final handshake Layton and his team has made this painful process so much easier."
— Darren Bell (about Leighton)
