Cherished Funerals is a female-led, independent family funeral service based at Ashfield House, Longtown, Herefordshire, set up in 2021. Founded by Kate, who was born and bred in Herefordshire, the business was established out of a genuine passion for the profession and a desire to serve local families with the utmost care and transparency. The newly built funeral home is situated within the family's courtyard, just steps from their family home, creating a truly unique 'Home from Home' environment where loved ones are kept in a peaceful, tranquil setting throughout their stay.
Cherished prides itself on offering a highly personal, bespoke service, giving families the time, support, and guidance they need during one of life's most difficult moments. Families are encouraged to be as involved as they wish, including spending time with their loved one and participating in washing and dressing if desired. The team is available 24/7 and ensures that loved ones are never moved to any other premises.
Cherished is a member of the NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors) and offers a wide range of services, from traditional and sustainable funerals to simple and unique choices, as well as funeral cost assistance. The business covers Herefordshire and the surrounding counties.
"Kate gave our family so much time and care that we felt real comfort whenever we visited. The service provided by Cherished Funerals goes way beyond 5-star excellence."
— Mark Ewins (about Kate)
"Every little anxiety that I had was ironed out by Kate immediately. Her kindness and attention to detail totally blew my mind. My Dad would have been so thrilled to have been in Kate and David's care. I feel so lucky to have made a wonderful friend during such a sad time in my life."
— Lynette Quinton (about Kate)
"I will miss the contact with Kate now it's all over as I felt like I was dealing with a friend during this process. People attending were overwhelmed and more than one attendee said it was the 'best funeral they had ever been to'."
— Nichola Speight (about Kate)
"Although we were in a sea of grief, Kate's attention to detail made it such a beautiful memory that we will cherish. Even our mum's favourite music (The Handel Messiah) was quietly playing in the background, tea and biscuits were provided and we never once felt rushed."
— Kath Forder (about Kate)
"We can't praise Kate enough - without her I would not have got through my darling mother's funeral. She is so kind and warm I would not have been happy with Mum going to anyone else. I felt so safe and in her tender care from start to finish and she carried the whole family through the funeral, before and afterwards."
— Fiona Lowes (about Kate)
"Unbeknown to us, Kate picked up on even the finest details we gave her, such that our final viewing was an absolute joy for us in what could easily have been a time of great sorrow. Her preparation was meticulous, even to the point of having the viewing room decorated with little pink butterflies, just as mother-in-law loved."
— Mark Ewins (about Kate)
