Thousands of families in Lewes have placed their trust in CPJ Field to help them following the death of a loved one.
Operating under the name of Cooper & Son, we are one of the oldest funeral directors in Sussex. Located on High Street, Lewes we are here to help you at a difficult time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
"A bar of chocolate and a tea bag for each mourner at the end of the service made us all smile and reminded us of our Aunt's two favourite things. Everything had been thought through so carefully so that on the day of the funeral, we could enjoy a morning fit for our Aunt."
— Maureen Boynton (about Anastasia)
"What was already a terribly sad time was lifted by the kindness, compassion and the genuine human warmth displayed by Anastasia, which included some comforting natural humour when it was appropriate."
— Jane de St Croix (about Anastasia)
"My mum died very suddenly and unexpectedly in Wales, and Cooper & Son all helped to bring her back to Lewes where her heart was so that we could bury her in her own plot at the cemetery. When we came across blocks, they just helped sort everything out. The guidance, care and communication from everyone at Cooper & Son made it bearable."
— Freya Ellingham
"From the very first contact with Angela at Coopers, we were met with the warmth and sincere understanding that we so needed. This ensured that our inputs were seamlessly woven into what was to become the emotional and moving tribute to Linda that we desired to achieve. We will forever be grateful for the way in which Coopers supported us through this sad time."
— james smith (about Angela)
"With the sudden passing of my husband at such a young age, Damian went above and beyond with the team to deliver the most beautiful send off that was completely personal to Aaron, everything was tailored to him down to a T. At a time when I was at my most vulnerable Angela, Damian and the team really put me at ease and made the process we were dreading completely seamless and smooth."
— Tiger Club (about Damian)
"We used Cooper and Son in 2023 when we were in the midst of the worst time in our lives after losing our baby. They were absolutely incredible, so considerate and caring and went out of their way on multiple occasions. Angela was such a lovely and compassionate lady which really meant a lot."
— Victoria Levi (about Angela)

From the moment I walked through the door the staff at Coopers, Lewes, made me feel at ease and supported. At a difficult time, Anastasia, the manager and her colleagues, Angela and Ioni gave all my Aunts nieces and mourners time to express their grief and showed empathy throughout the funeral process. Everything had been thought through so carefully so that, on the day of the funeral, we could enjoy a morning fit for our Aunt. A bar of chocolate and a tea bag for each mourner, at the end of the service, made us all smile and reminded us of our Aunts two favourite things! Thank you so much.

We have used Cooper & Son for family bereavements for as long as I know. They have helped with a number of funerals over the years and we had reason to use their services again this year. I had not organised a funeral myself before but from the moment we walked in we were treated professionally, with care, humility and understanding. They helped us every step of the way with all of the arrangements and then when the day of the funeral service itself came everything was caring, compassionate and thoughtful. They helped make a difficult time as seamless as possible and we will be forever grateful for what they did. I cannot recommend their team highly enough. (Mum would be very happy.)

Anastasia and her colleagues at Cooper & Son gave our family everything we could have wanted in the arrangements for my husband Nick’s funeral. He was only 73 and died far too soon from cancer. Every request to meet the individual wishes of family members was met without fuss. Indeed, what was already a terribly sad time was lifted by the kindness, compassion and the genuine human warmth displayed by Anastasia which included some comforting natural humour when it was appropriate. We chose the Clayton Wood natural burial site timber barn venue for the funeral and a non-religious celebrant and Cooper & Son worked with both again without fuss or any complication.

The team at Cooper & Son were amazing in dealing with the funeral arrangements for Dad, especially Anastasia, Angela and Mandy who were always on hand to answer questions and help us through the process. Their professional and considerate approach was most appreciated in what was a very difficult time for us. I would highly recommend them.

Honestly, everyone was incredibly caring and careful, but had confidence to guide us through what we needed to do. My mum died very suddenly and unexpectedly in Wales, and Cooper & Son all helped to bring her back to Lewes where her heart was so that we could bury her in her own plot at the cemetery. When we came across blocks, they just helped sort everything out. We wanted a non-religious ceremony and Cooper & Sons found us a wonderful celebrant who understood mum and the family within minutes of speaking with us. It's a difficult time for anyone, but the guidance, care and communication from everyone at Cooper & Son made it bearable. Thank you to all
