G & H Seamer is a long-established, family-run funeral directors based in Sandy, Bedfordshire, with a history stretching back to February 1903 when Alfred Seamer took over the funeral and joinery business from the Withey Family. The company has been passed down through generations of the Seamer family, with George and Harry Seamer lending their initials to the business name, followed by Leslie James Seamer, and then Jim Seamer, who took over the running of the business in 1976. In 2024, following the passing of Jim Seamer, his grandson Tom Spavins took over the business, continuing the family legacy into its second century.
Based at 47 High Street, Sandy, the team is dedicated to supporting families through one of life's most difficult moments, offering compassionate and professional guidance at every step. A new chapel of rest, James' Chapel, opened in 2023, providing a modern, open space for families to spend time with their loved ones and to hold small services.
G & H Seamer offers a range of funeral services including traditional funerals, direct cremation with a chapel service, and direct cremation. They also offer pre-paid funeral plans through Perfect Choice Funeral Plans, and their professional team includes funeral arrangers and a well-trained team of bearers to support families throughout.
"From the very beginning, we had no idea what the process involved, but they guided us through everything with clarity and compassion."
— Simon Hutchinson
"Tom really took the pressure away and delivered a first class funeral service for my dad."
— nick coles (about Tom)
"They are highly professional but have the warmth and kindness of a family-run business. This is the second time we have used Seamers as a family, and once again their care, support and service was outstanding."
— Ob Runner
"Kelly was extremely supportive and understanding, nothing was too much trouble. It was great having Seamers there with us at a difficult time, it made everything much easier."
— C M (about Kelly)
"Tom was exceptional in organising every detail, and the whole team went above and beyond to make sure our mum's farewell was handled with dignity and respect. They truly did her proud."
— Simon Hutchinson (about Tom)
"In a time where the world stands still it is reassuring to know that there are still companies like this that can 'hold your hand' and guide you through the days and weeks following the passing of a loved one. I cannot think of another company that I would entrust such a monumental occasion with. Whilst this is a review it is also a message of thanks to all of you for helping us lay Mum to rest. Genuinely cannot thank you enough."
— Michael Harvey
