George Stacey Family Funeral Directors is a historic, family-owned funeral home based in Hednesford, Cannock, Staffordshire. Established in 1872 by James Stacey, the firm is now in its 4th and 5th generation of family ownership, making it the oldest surviving funeral directors in the Hednesford area. What began as a wheelwright and carpentry business gradually evolved into a dedicated funeral service, with James Stacey initially making coffins as a natural extension of his craft.
Over the generations, the business has grown and adapted while retaining its deeply personal, family-centred approach. George Stacey, son of the founder, expanded the firm significantly and introduced motorised transport in the 1930s. Today, the business is led by Christine Poole, a Great-Great-Granddaughter of the original founder, alongside Bob and Robert, representing the continuing Stacey family legacy.
As proud members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), George Stacey is committed to upholding the NAFD Funeral Promise and maintaining the highest professional standards. The team offers a full range of funeral services, from traditional funerals to direct cremation, and provides 24-hour support to families in Hednesford and the surrounding areas.
"The patience and care shown by the team at Staceys was exemplary; supplying much needed direction and recommendations to help us personalise Dad's goodbye, Christine and the team filled us with confidence and provided comfort in this surreal and sad time."
— Janie Pugh (about Christine)
"From the first point of contact they have been courteous, sympathetic, flexible and available whenever we have contacted them. Nothing has been too much trouble."
— Bob Titley (about Christine)
"Christine was so kind and considerate throughout, she organised everything perfectly and really took the pressure off us during such a difficult time."
— Barbara Rigby (about Christine)
"Funerals are stressful days by default but Christine and the team were brilliant, making a sad and difficult day bearable, and for that, my family and I will always be eternally grateful."
— Janie Pugh (about Christine)
"At a time when I was at my lowest Christine was infinitely patient and understanding and nothing was too much trouble. They provide a calming presence that helps you get through the darkest of days."
— Joanne Richardson (about Christine)
"I recently lost my wife and soul mate and was struggling to cope. Christine was amazing and took all of our requests and made a beautiful funeral sorting everything for us. It was beautiful and heartfelt and will stay with me for the rest of my days."
