Harpin's Funeral Service has been serving the Wakefield community and surrounding areas for over 90 years, having been established in 1932 by Leonard and Vera Harpin. What began with the purchase of a Rolls Royce and a vision to provide dignified funeral services grew into a well-respected business with a fleet of hearses and limousines. The family's first Chapel of Rest was on Arundel Street, Wakefield, and in 1977 a purpose-built Funeral Home was opened at Back Mount Pleasant, Wakefield — the location they continue to serve from today.
The business has remained a true family affair across generations, with Leonard and Vera's grandchildren, Sean and Sara, now working for the company as Senior Funeral Director and Business Principal respectively. Today, Harpin's is part of the Funeral Partners group, while maintaining its strong local identity and the values of professionalism and compassion that have defined it for decades.
Harpin's Funeral Service offers a full range of services including cremations, burials, green and woodland funerals, unattended cremations, and repatriation. Their dedicated team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and can also visit clients at home to discuss funeral arrangements. They also offer prepaid funeral plans through the Choice plan, helping families plan ahead with confidence.
"Julia was amazing, so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. To arrange everything in such short time was really good — you helped make a difficult time just a little easier."
— Nigel Haycock (about Julia)
"Big enough to cope, small enough to care — from start to finish, you did Mum proud. A special mention to Lesley who made the day easier with her kind words."
— Keith Dobson (about Lesley)
"Sara was a model of professionalism and at the same time friendly and sensitive. On the day everything went like clockwork and I never had a moment's anxiety about the arrangements."
— Pete Pozman (about Sara)
"I cannot thank Harpins enough for the way they have dealt with every aspect of my grandma's passing. Jane has been so helpful, prompt, supportive and understanding. They really care about your loved ones and you."
— Gaby Boffin (about Jane)
"Georgina was brilliant, organised, thorough, caring and considerate, and great attention to detail. She provided some thoughtful, observant and creative input into the funeral and I had complete trust in her abilities. My Aunt would have approved whole heartedly."
— Carole Kingsbury (about Georgina)
"Losing my dad has been the hardest time of my life, but Sara has made the whole ordeal somehow easier to cope with in a way I didn't think was possible. In my line of work I deal with people every single day, and I can honestly say Sara is one of the best I've ever come across. Thank you, Sara, for looking after my dad with such dignity, and for looking after me and my family through a very difficult time. I won't forget the help you've given us."
— oliver williams (about Sara)
