Harry Edwards and Sons Funeral Directors has been serving bereaved families throughout Shropshire since 1885, with a rich local heritage rooted in Wellington. The business was originally founded by Tom Edwards, a builder and undertaker based in King Street, around 1885. His sons William and Harry continued the legacy, with Harry eventually running and developing the funeral business alongside his three sons: Tom, Frank and Harry. The family sold the business in 1972, but the Harry Edwards & Sons name proudly continues today as a family-run, independent business at 1 High Street, Wellington, Telford.
The Wellington funeral home was completely refurbished in 2011 and now boasts immaculate Chapels of Rest and modern office facilities. Harry Edwards & Sons are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and were inspected by IFSO (Independent Funeral Standards Organisation) in 2023, during which they were found compliant in all areas — a testament to their commitment to the highest standards of care.
The team at Harry Edwards & Sons uses extensive knowledge and experience to support families through every aspect of funeral arranging, whether a simple, traditional, or completely unique service. They also offer funeral plans, memorial masonry guidance, live streaming, visual tributes, and a range of bespoke service packages including direct cremation options.
"Harry Edwards cared for my Dad and now very recently for the care of my Mum after their deaths. The way they spoke to us and the delicate language they used at these difficult times made it all easier to bear."
— Susan Derome
"From the moment we called Harry Edwards we were reassured and advised on what we do next. We are so thankful for the care they gave to our dad but how they extended that kindness to our family."
— Kaz Hall (about Tahnia, Helen and Sarah)
"I totally felt my wishes were being met as I had a couple of not so standard things that my late wife wished to have and they couldn't have been more supportive and helpful. I will certainly be asking my family when my time comes to use Harry Edwards and Sons."
— Leigh Asterley
"They went over and above at every step of the way, even offering to mix Moms ashes with Dads, which was such a lovely thing to do. You made a difference we won't forget."
— Joanne Phillips (about Sarah)
"After the worst happened, the staff at Harry Edwards & Sons took care of my husband on every step of his journey. I didn't know where to start but they guided me through everything, resulting in a funeral day that was far from the day I dreaded, much more, a day of comfort and celebration. The Conductor walking ahead of the hearse is a tradition that I was so grateful was honoured - no more respect than my husband deserved."
— Jacqueline Sim (about Sarah and Keith)
"Last June we lost our baby boy Scott at 19 days. He died at Birmingham Children's Hospital. Harry Edwards Funeral Directors were amazing. Having never sorted a funeral before my husband and I didn't know where to start. Lynda and Andrea helped us through the process with kindness and thoughtfulness. Our darkest moments were made easier with the care we all received from them."
— Alexis Parker (about Lynda and Andrea)
