Howard Chadwick Funeral Service has been proudly serving the Wallingford area and the surrounding communities of South Oxfordshire and Berkshire since its establishment in 1991. The business was originally founded by Howard Chadwick, his wife Sandra, and their nephew Alistair Cox, all of whom had worked in various areas of the funeral profession before opening their own service. In the early days, funeral arrangements were made by home visits or at Howard and Sandra's home, before the team took over the Wallingford Cemetery Chapel in 1994. In 2008, they moved to purpose-built premises at 33 Benson Lane, Crowmarsh Gifford — formerly the site of the old French Gardens — which was designed by the team themselves.
Over the years, the business has grown to include several family members: Neil (Alistair's father) joined in 2001, Ryan in 2014, Ashley (Alistair's twin brother) in 2017, and Thomas (Alistair's son) in 2024. That same year, Howard Chadwick Funeral Service became part of Funeral Partners Ltd. The team is experienced in arranging funerals for all religions and beliefs, and can make arrangements for the transport of the deceased to and from abroad. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and pride themselves on providing a personal, compassionate, and professional service at what can be a very difficult time.
"No matter what time you spoke with them they were there to help and guide you through the hardest moment of your life."
— Sally Geddes
"I cannot express how amazing the team were, they went above and beyond what we expected especially both Alistair and Ryan. The professionalism, communication and attention to detail was nothing but the highest standard."
— James Shipman (about Alistair, Ryan)
"They gently guided us every step of the way with great professionalism, compassion and sensitivity for which we will be forever grateful."
— Frances Allen
"Ryan and Tom looked after us before and during the service, collecting us from our house, taking us to the service and then on to the wake. They ensured that every detail ran smoothly with an unhurried and caring approach."
— Susan Twitchett (about Ryan, Tom)
"Organising the repatriation of our Mum and her funeral in Oxfordshire remotely from Scotland seemed an overwhelming task. However, Chadwick's gently and expertly guided us through the entire process with professionalism and empathy. Our particular thanks to Alistair, Ashley and Neil for their exceptional compassion and respectful care of Mum and her family during this most difficult of times."
— Heather Harris (about Alistair, Ashley, Neil)
"Circumstances for our funeral changed at the last minute and we even had a call from Alistair over the weekend to ensure that we were reassured that everything was in place for the funeral on a Monday morning - this was a great relief to us, highlighting their empathy and thoughtfulness."
— Louisa Niland (about Alistair)

From the moment that we contacted Howard Chadwick's after the passing of our brother in January, they have been professional, reliable and sensitive. Nothing has been too much trouble for them, they have answered all of our many questions with patience and understanding, even when we have rang several times a day. Circumstances for our funeral changed at the last minute and we even had a call from Alistair over the weekend to ensure that we were reassured that everything was in place for the funeral on a Monday morning - this was a great relief to us, highlighting their empathy and thoughtfulness. Every member of staff we have met both young and older have excelled in their role, so much so that we whole heartedly recommend this family business. They are old hands at this and leave nothing to chance with years of experience, which truly shows. Thank you Howard Chadwick Funeral Services for making a terrible event in our lives much easier to navigate.

We just had Howard Chadwick’s look after the arrangements for my dad’s cremation recently. I cannot express how amazing the team were, they went above and beyond what we expected especially both Alistair and Ryan. Knowing them for many years helped the process more but you could tell the professionalism, communication and attention to detail was nothing but the highest standard. I would not recommend anyone other than this team and can only speak highly of the service that was given. Thankyou for making this process as easy to take in as possible. James Shipman

I would like to thank everyone at Howard Chadwick's for their support. I wanted my husband to go back to Oxfordshire from Wiltshire as this was his home ground. From the recovery from the Swindon hospital to the Chapel of Rest and all the arrangements they were respectful and professional. Nothing was too much, even when I changed my mind on the Order of Service, I wanted it to be perfect and it was. The Celebrant they suggested, Helen was superb, so many people commented on her professional and loving manner. Thomas, Alistair and Ashley all had my thoughts and requirements at heart. Thank you.

However, Chadwick’s gently and expertly guided us through the entire process with professionalism and empathy. Our particular thanks to Alistair, Ashley and Neil for their exceptional compassion and respectful care of Mum and her family during this most difficult of times. On the day of the funeral itself they were all immaculately turned out and ensured everything went smoothly and with a such a dignified attention to detail that our family have no hesitation in recommending Chadwick’s.

Chadwicks made the funeral arrangements for my mother early in January 2026. They are a very professional firm, thinking of everything that needed to be done and in a very caring, respectful and thoughtful way. We dealt with Ashley at the funeral home, meeting up with him several times. He was always helpful and good at his job and produced a splendid Order of Service. Ryan and Tom looked after us before and during the service, collecting us from our house, taking us to the service and then on to the wake. They ensured that every detail ran smoothly with an unhurried and caring approach. Chadwicks staff were very smartly dressed, turned up early to carry out their duties, and showed respect. We were very impressed and would recommend this firm most highly.
