Martels Funeral Services Ltd is an independent, family-run funeral business based in Guernsey, Channel Islands, with roots tracing back to the mid-1800s when the local carpenter and builder undertook funeral arrangements for families. Following the Second World War, the business was modernised by Mr G E Martel, who introduced the first chapel of rest to the island. The current owner joined in 1972, and after acquiring the company in 1976, pursued plans for a purpose-built funeral home, which was completed in 1989 and subsequently extended and fully refurbished in 1997.
The company became Martels Funeral Services Ltd following Mr Martel's passing in 1990, and has continued to grow, with Paul Bougourd joining as a funeral director in 2011 and Joan Ozanne in 2016. The purpose-built funeral home in Guernsey incorporates the latest mortuary facilities, with a reception and private interview room designed to feel more like a home than an office, offering a warm and comforting atmosphere for families making arrangements or visiting the Chapel of Rest.
Martels is a proud member of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and adheres to a strict Code of Practice, ensuring the highest standards of care and professionalism. The team is dedicated to providing personal, compassionate support to the bereaved and their families during times of grief and distress.
