Mason & Stokes Funeral Service is an independent, family-run business based at Tudor Lodge, 54 Hewlett Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Established in 1853 by Thomas Stokes, the business has been serving local families for over 170 years and is currently owned and managed by Joy Mason and her daughter Jessica Bryars, with three generations of the Mason family working together under one roof.
The business has a rich history rooted in the Cheltenham community. David Mason, who began by driving the hearse for Eric Stokes in the 1950s, gradually took over the business and moved it to its current Hewlett Road location in 1987. Joy joined in 1990 and, alongside her brother Richard, helped guide the business through many years including the challenges of the pandemic. Following Richard's passing in 2022, Joy and Jessica continue to uphold the family values and ethos that have defined Mason & Stokes for generations.
Mason & Stokes offers a comprehensive range of funeral services, including cremation, burial, and direct cremation options, with transparent pricing provided on their website. They also offer pre-paid funeral plans through Golden Charter Funeral Plans. The team is dedicated to supporting bereaved families with care, professionalism, and personal attention, making Mason & Stokes a trusted name in Cheltenham.
"They conducted themselves throughout with a high degree of professionalism and respectfulness and helped me to navigate this difficult time. I couldn't recommend them highly enough."

— Erin Price
"Julian provided an excellent service from start to finish. Patient, kind and helpful — the whole process was extremely well organised and compassionate. The family could not have received better treatment."
— Richard Green (about Julian)
"The service provided, and the little touches, were above and beyond what we expected, and provided a fitting and respectful goodbye."
— Darren Harding (about Julian)
"The whole team with Julian gave us support and comfort before, during and after my Mother's funeral."
— Beverley S (about Julian)
"Julian at Mason & Stokes gave myself and my daughter the patience, kindness, endless tissues and made sure every detail was explained. He understood our emotional state; a professional gentleman with compassion."
