Peace Funerals is an award-winning, family-run and independent funeral directors based in Sheffield, established in 1996 by John and Mary Mallatratt. Founded after the couple grew frustrated with the limited options and care provided by larger funeral companies, Peace Funerals has grown into a trusted team of a dozen permanent staff dedicated to meeting the needs of families during their most difficult times.
The company has earned national recognition, winning the award for best funeral directors in the UK, and is recommended by both the Natural Death Centre charity and the independent Good Funeral Guide. Their core principles of transparency, choice, and affordability set them apart, ensuring no hidden extras and a genuinely personalised experience for every family they serve.
Peace Funerals offers a comprehensive range of funeral services including direct cremation, simple cremation, standard cremation, natural burial, traditional burial, and bespoke funerals. Families consistently praise the team for their compassion, professionalism, and the personal care they provide, making Peace Funerals one of Sheffield's most trusted and respected funeral homes.
"I felt completely in charge of the whole process and was never pressured into paying for something I didn't want. They went above and beyond to help me and nothing was too much trouble."
— Alison Harrop (about Stephen)
"They took all the stress away so we could grieve. All the staff were genuinely warm hearted, kind, understanding but also down to earth and professional. My dad was given an amazing and beautiful send off, one I know he would have been proud of."
— Kimberley Swann (about Gavin)
"They simply lifted all the worry off my shoulders and did everything exactly the way I wanted it for my dear Dad. He had an amazing Railway funeral and the help from Peace extended way beyond that day."
— Hazel Worrall-Jones (about Stephen Parkin)
"James got out of the car and walked in front of the hearse for the final part of the journey to the crematorium wearing a top hat which we thought was a lovely touch. They were absolutely amazing and made a very difficult time for us as a family a lot easier."
— L Woodhead (about James)
"The staff treat their roles as a vocation rather than a business, thank you just does not seem adequate for the level of care and attention to detail provided at this difficult time."
— Anita (about Stephen)
"At the worst time in mine and my family's lives, James was so kind, thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble. From start to finish and, even well after their service has technically ended, still so kind and thoughtful... absolutely second to none. From me, Sarah and my whole family, thank you James, from the bottom of our hearts."

Stephen and the team were kind, respectful and helpful. The natural burial ground is a beautiful and tranquil place. The whole service was above and beyond my expectations. The staff treat their roles as a vocation rather than a business, thank you just does not seem adequate for the level of care and attention to detail provided at this difficult time.

Myself and my partner cant thank James enough for his help and guidance over the past few weeks, and what turned out to be such a beautiful service yesterday all thanks to him and the rest of his team. I cannot recommend him enough, he was so patient and kind, thank you so much.

We used Peace to arrange a seevice, cremation and plot at city road. James and the team were so incredible! At the worst time in mine and my family's lives, James was so kind, thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble. From start to finish and, even well after their service has technically ended, still so kind and thoughtful when contacting about finger print services etc... absolutely second to none and would highly recommend to anyone!! From me, Sarah and my whole family, thank you James, from the bottom of our hearts ♥️♥️

My Mums funeral was only yesterday, I have to reach out and highlight how much of a difference all this process has been with having Peace behind us from the girls at gleadless to everyone on the day then to James who has been so good all the way through this difficult time enabling us to concentrate on those around us, it's reassuring to know Mums Day was in good hands. Many Many Thanks from all our family.

What can I say about Peace funerals? They were absolutely amazing! They are truly professional, and made a very difficult time for us as a family a lot easier. James was such a genuinely kind and caring person and talked us through everything in great detail. He was there on hand whenever we needed any help. He put us in touch with a wonderful celebrant Dyane and she was just as professional and caring too. She conducted a perfect service for us and we couldn’t be more pleased with the send off our Aunt received due to the professionalism and attention to detail. James got out of the car and walked in front of the hearse for the final part of the journey to the crematorium wearing a top hat which we thought was a lovely touch. We also ordered our flowers for the top of the coffin through Peace and they were stunning. I would whole heartedly recommend Peace funerals and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.
