About

Sherlock Funeral Service Ltd, based at Trellis House, 190 South Street, Dorking, Surrey, is a long-established independent funeral director with roots stretching back to 1888. The business was founded by Thomas Henry Sherlock, who originally traded as a wheelwright and coach-builder in West Street, Dorking, before adding a funeral service. Now in its fifth generation of family ownership, Sherlock Funeral Service has been a trusted presence in the Dorking community and surrounding villages for well over a century.

In January 2010, Stoneman Funeral Service — another esteemed Surrey family funeral business established in 1865 — purchased Sherlock and Sons, bringing together two families with a shared commitment to personalised, compassionate care. The two families now work closely together, sharing matching Jaguar hearses and limousines and a wealth of combined local knowledge and experience. In 2012, a brand new fleet of Jaguar hearses and limousines with matching number plates was introduced, reflecting the high standards the business sets for itself.

Sherlock Funeral Service offers a comprehensive range of funeral services, from traditional ceremonies to environmental and natural burials, as well as pre-paid funeral plans, floral arrangements, and probate assistance. The Dorking funeral home at Trellis House includes a purpose-built chapel seating up to 70 people, added in 1951. The team is available 24 hours a day and is proud to be members of the National Association of Funeral Directors, the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, and the British Institute of Funeral Directors.
