Thomas Greatorex and Sons is a long-established funeral director based at 29 Knowleston Place, Matlock, Derbyshire, with roots stretching back to 1892 when Thomas Greatorex started his business in Matlock aged 34. Originally a firm of joiners, wheelwrights and blacksmiths who made horse-drawn carts, the business evolved over the decades into a dedicated funeral directing service. Two of Thomas's sons, Raymond and Roland, joined the business, and following their father's death in 1939, the firm became formally known as Thomas Greatorex & Sons Ltd. Major development of the undertaking business took place in the 1950s, when a new chapel of rest and offices were opened at Matlock Green.
The Jepson family acquired the business in 1980 and today it serves as the head office of Jepson Funerals Limited, a group with branches across Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The team at Thomas Greatorex and Sons is dedicated to guiding families through the difficult decisions involved in arranging a funeral, combining traditional values with a modern approach. Their fully trained and professional staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring compassionate support whenever it is needed.
The branch offers a comprehensive range of funeral services, including advice on what to do when someone dies, full funeral arrangement support, pre-paid funeral plans, and additional extras such as flowers, headstones and coffins. Their commitment to care and professionalism has earned them a strong reputation within the local Matlock community for well over a century.
