Clarkson's Independent Funeral Directors Ltd is a family-owned, independent funeral firm operated by mother and daughter Carol Spalding and Sophie May. The Frome branch, known as Martha's House, was opened in 2012 on Broadway and is managed by Louise Barnes, Branch Manager and Funeral Arranger, who is dedicated to providing compassionate care for families during their time of need.
The company was originally established as Jolly's of Bath, changing its name in August 2001, with Carol Spalding taking ownership in 2004. Clarkson's prides itself on offering a high level of personal attention, free from the constraints of any national chain. The team believes that a meaningful funeral service is not just about tradition, but about celebrating each individual's life in a way that reflects their unique personality and wishes.
Clarkson's is a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors, the Good Funeral Guide, and the Natural Death Centre. The firm also offers GriefChat, a free bereavement support service available Monday to Friday, 9am–9pm. Families can be visited at home or meet with staff at the Frome branch, with the team available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
