The business has a rich family history: Ron Thorne joined Mr Stevens as an apprentice in 1943, took over the business with his wife Sue in 1960, and their son Geoff joined full time in 1974. Today, Geoff's sons Michael and Robin continue to run the business, proudly carrying on a tradition of personal, compassionate care for generations of local families.
Based at 93-95 High Street, Alton, the funeral home offers purpose-built Chapels of Rest, a modern mortuary facility, coffin workshops, and a fleet of their own funeral vehicles. Their dedicated team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by telephone or home visit, ensuring families receive support whenever they need it.
Kemp & Stevens offers a comprehensive range of services including cremations, burials, green and woodland funerals, unattended cremations, and repatriation. They also provide prepaid funeral plans through the Choice plan, floral tributes, memorial masonry, orders of service, and online funeral notices. The team is committed to creating tailored, meaningful farewells that truly reflect the unique life of each loved one.

Robin was really helpful, especially when our desired crematorium had no availability and he quickly got us booked elsewhere that met our timeframe. We really liked the quality of the Order of Service, both the printing and the thickness of the card. We were given lots of advice and suggestions, which helped us to make the right choices for the day. The whole process was all made easy and stress free.

We used Kemp and Stevens for my dads funeral and they were outstanding. From the very first meeting with Mark and then with Chloe who was our main contact. They were respectful, patient, empathetic, understanding, compassionate and caring. They never tried to persuade us with anything other than what we asked for. 24hours before the funeral we asked to change a song and they sorted this with no fuss. The staff at the funeral were professional and again very respectful and understanding. There was a moment when my mum walked over before we carried my dad in and all the staff quietly took a step back and allowed her some privacy. This was so touching and it was these little things which can go un noticed which meant alot. Jack was lovely throughout and made sure my dads racing helmet was placed on the coffin during the service, he then ensured this was brought back with them so we didn't need to worry. I hope I don't need to use Kemp & Stevens again for a long time but if and when the time comes, I will not hesitate to contact them. Thank you to everyone there who made this day go smoothly and your whole team is a credit to the company name.

We've used Kemp and Stevens now on 4 occasions and they have been kind and respectful. They listened to our requests for simplicity and never tried to persuade us otherwise. I wouldn't go anywhere else, but hopefully I won't need to for a long time! I agree with another reviewer that Charlotte in the office has been prompt and efficient.
