L Tranter and Son (inc Bailey and Tranter) is a family-run funeral director based at 101-109 West Street, St. Georges, Telford, with a history spanning more than a century. Founded in 1898 by John and Leonard Tranter, the business has been passed down through five — and now six — generations of the Tranter family, making it one of the most established and trusted funeral directors in the Shropshire area. The head office at West Street, St. Georges, has remained the company's base since its very founding, reflecting a deep connection to the local community.
The firm offers a comprehensive and personal funeral service to clients of all faiths and backgrounds, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Services include a wide range of coffins and caskets (including environmentally friendly and colourful options), funeral transport, memorials and headstones, floral tributes, chapels of rest, funeral stationery, refreshments, live streaming, music and visual tributes, and pre-paid funeral planning. The company is also developing Telford's first large-capacity Funeral Director Service Hall, featuring private parking and a reception lounge.
Managing Director Symon Tranter holds all three recognised industry qualifications, making him the only funeral director in Shropshire to do so. The team's expertise, warmth, and knowledge of local customs ensure every family receives a fitting and unique tribute for their loved one.
