Peter Grenfell Funeral Directors, based at Westfield House in Ashington, Northumberland, has deep roots in the local community stretching back generations. The Grenfell family's involvement in funeral services began in the 1950s when Tom Grenfell worked as a coachbuilder and undertaker in the region. The tradition was carried forward by his son John and grandson Bob, who acquired a funeral home in Bedlington, and later by Peter Grenfell himself, who joined the family business in the early 1970s.
In 2004, Peter established his own company and acquired Westfield House in Ashington, undertaking a significant refurbishment to create a fitting home for the business. In 2009, as Peter approached retirement, he chose to align with William Purves — a family business with over 100 years of experience and five generations of expertise in premier funeral services — ensuring his legacy of compassionate care would continue.
Today, the four-strong team at Peter Grenfell continues to serve bereaved families across Ashington, Bedlington and the surrounding areas. Guided by the values of compassion, dedication, integrity and respect, the team is available 24 hours a day and is committed to helping families honour their loved ones with a truly individual and meaningful farewell.
