R. Steenson & Son is a fifth-generation independent family funeral business located at 11 Loy Street, Cookstown, County Tyrone. Founded in 1905 by the late Robert Steenson, who had previously managed the undertaking company Silas E. Weir & Co. in Cookstown for some twenty-five years, the firm has a proud and distinguished history spanning well over a century. The business moved to its current spacious premises in Loy Street in 1990, which include a funeral home and chapel of rest, viewing room, coffin selection room, embalming room, and a private car park accommodating over thirty vehicles.
The firm is currently managed by Bryan Steenson and his wife Carole, who took over the day-to-day running of the business following the untimely death of Robin Steenson in 2012. Their sons Adam and Matthew are now also involved, representing the fifth generation of the Steenson family in the business. Bryan's grandfather, Robin Steenson, was the first family member to become a Member of the British Institute of Embalmers and held senior roles within the National Association of Funeral Directors.
R. Steenson & Son offers a comprehensive range of services including funeral arrangement, prepaid and prearranged funeral plans, memorial design and maintenance, and repatriation of deceased persons to and from Northern Ireland. Their chapel of rest has a capacity of 75 seated, with memorial services available to stream via Facebook Live. A 24-hour phone service is available for making funeral arrangements.
"Very professional and caring undertaker."
