R. W. Percival is a long-established funeral director based in Buxton, Derbyshire, with a history spanning over 100 years. Originally known as Webster's, a firm of joiners and undertakers operating with a horse-drawn hearse, the business evolved through various partnerships before becoming R. W. Percival. In 2009, the business was acquired by the Jepson family and is now under the personal supervision of Tom Jepson, a fifth-generation funeral director who holds his Diploma in Funeral Directing (DipFD).
The team at R. W. Percival, led by Harry and Tom Jepson alongside administrator Deborah Scragg, is dedicated to guiding families through bereavement with compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail. They offer a fully tailored service, combining the traditional values of a long-established business with a modern approach to meet every family's individual needs.
Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the team provides support at every stage — from the initial call through to the day of the funeral and beyond. Additional services include flowers, headstones, coffins, pre-paid funeral plans, and the creation of orders of service. The business is a member of both the NAFD and SAIF, reflecting its commitment to the highest professional standards.
"From that very first phone call through to after the funeral, their service has been outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble - Harry was incredible at helping us make decisions and arranging everything, from the church and date to the cars and the playlist of music."
— Eloise (about Harry, Debs)
"Percivals offer a first class supportive service to bereaved families. They hand hold from death through to burial or cremation. The family see the service as a vocation, no task is too small."
— Anne Hall
"Harry handled everything with such compassion, understanding, and dignity. He guided us through every step with patience and respect, which brought great comfort during a very difficult time. Nothing was too much trouble."
— collette (about Harry, Debs)
"Everyone we dealt with was perfectly suited to work in a role that requires compassion, respect and empathy - something the Jepson family and team at Percival's have nailed. Thank you all for making his final journey smooth, dignified, and absolutely spectacular."
— Ellena Mole (about Harry)
"Five stars is not enough for Harry and his colleagues. They pulled out all the stops to get it perfect. The team's whole manner is sympathetic, caring and open and yet at the same time totally professional. They really are the best of the best."
— Chris Armitt (about Harry)
"When it seems like nothing and no-one can help, they are kind, calm and there to support you. The compassion and professionalism of R W Percivals shines through at every stage. We felt very cared for throughout."
— Eloise (about Harry, Debs)
