After my mum died we contacted the Co-Op funeral directors. Staff initially friendly, after poor communication with dates, we decided to move to a different funeral directors due to co op not being able to do the date we wanted (both the church and cemetery could do those dates). After calling and confirming another directors could do the date we wanted we called the church to get the date confirmed to find out Co-Op changed the dates with the church without consulting the family. We have then had to backtrack with the church, contact the council to sort the cemetery date. The next day we had a friend of the family call us to ask if they could attend the funeral on the wrong date. We questioned them and found that the co op had posted on their Facebook page a post about my mum with wrong funeral information (we were meant to see a draft before it was posted). I wouldn’t recommend this place if they are busy as they clearly don’t have the capacity to handle too many clients. Left a sour taste, won’t use again.

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for the funeral I attended as a visitor following the unexpected passing of my partner's aunt. I was nervous as I approached the solemn occasion, not knowing exactly what to expect. However, I can genuinely say that my experience at the funeral was truly remarkable, and I was genuinely impressed by the professionalism displayed by the staff. Right from the moment we entered the venue, we were greeted with warmth and kindness by a receptionist who immediately made us feel at ease. They guided us to the room where the viewing was taking place, and as I opened the door, I was struck by the serene beauty of the departed. It was a unique and profound experience for me, one that left a lasting impression. The entire funeral was organised with thoughtfulness and attention to detail. The staff went above and beyond their regular duties to ensure that the widow and the grieving family received exceptional care and support. Every aspect of the service reflected their dedication to creating a comforting environment for everyone present. The level of care and meticulousness in arranging the event was truly commendable. Given that my partner and I are profoundly deaf, we had made arrangements to have a sign-language interpreter present for the funeral service. The process went smoothly and effortlessly. While I took the initiative to seek an interpreter, I was delighted to hear from them that working with the funeral service was incredibly easy. The staff readily accommodated our needs, ensuring the deaf attendees could fully understand and actively participate in the proceedings. I want to extend my deepest gratitude for the beautiful service. It was a bittersweet occasion, but Gloria, the departed, would have wholeheartedly approved of everything. The staff's professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail profoundly impacted everyone present. The funeral service was a fitting tribute to a beloved individual, offering solace and comfort during this challenging time. Once again, I want to sincerely thank the funeral service for their unwavering commitment to excellence. Thank you for creating a meaningful and memorable experience that will be cherished by all who attended.

Total lack of communication between employees with the family, and with each other. Really disappointed and upset with my experience with the Coop Funeral Parlour on Darleydale Road. We requested a closed casket but when my Brother went to see him in the parlour it was left open after 5 weeks, him also being a cancer patient it was not something that you would wish to see. Also requested a call back from the Funeral Director twice and was told he wouldn’t call me back until the day before the funeral, despite my pleas of trying to organise timings around the funeral. This meant I had to cut my eulogy short. At the end of my Dad’s cremation the driver of the family car kindly offered to collect my Dad’s ashes and told me she would call me once she had collected them. Two weeks later when I asked about them, I was told I would have to collect them myself as it was in the original plan. Just to top that the Funeral Director the day before the funeral said my Mum (The grieving 80 year old widow) would have make her own way to the parlour or pay £200 for them to pick her up after paying nearly £6k for her husband’s funeral. Once they were made aware of how distressed she was about this they agreed to pick her up. It felt like the staff had become desensitised to the impact of loss on a grieving family. Noticeable lack of empathy and sympathy that made us feel more like a number than a family.
